The Sunday Reset: Creating a Home That Feels as Good as It Looks

The Sunday Reset: Creating a Home That Feels as Good as It Looks

Yesterday was Sunday, which at our house usually means some version of a reset.

I love a clean house, but I’m also not someone who wants to spend my entire Sunday cleaning it.

For me, a Sunday reset is less about deep cleaning every corner of the house and more about getting things back in order before another week starts. Fresh sheets. Laundry put away. Kitchen cleaned. Floors done. Everything back where it belongs.

And then actually having a little time to enjoy the house.

There’s something about waking up on Monday morning with everything back in order that makes starting another week feel a little better.

It’s probably also why we’ve continued expanding Bourbon Royalty beyond candles. Some of my favorite fragrance moments at home don’t start with lighting a candle.

Sometimes, they start with cleaning the kitchen.

The Product I Probably Use the Most

If you came to our house on any given day, there’s a very good chance you’d find a bottle of Bourbon Royalty Multi-Surface Cleaner sitting somewhere nearby.

I use it constantly.

After cooking. On the kitchen counters and island. Before people come over. Or just because there’s somehow another random mess on the counter five minutes after I cleaned it.

I’m already cleaning the counter anyway. It might as well smell incredible when I’m finished.

And that’s one of the things I’ve come to love about fragrance at home. It doesn’t always have to be an extra step. Sometimes it can just be part of the things you’re already doing.

Fresh Sheets Change Everything

There’s something about starting the week with fresh sheets that makes life feel slightly more together than it probably is.

Laundry is usually part of our Sunday reset, and Royal Wash has become one of my favorite ways to experience fragrance because it stays with you differently than a candle does.

It’s in the sheets when you get into bed. The towels when you get out of the shower. The clothes you pull out of the closet later in the week.

It’s subtle, but it becomes part of how home feels.

Then, the Floors

I can’t pretend mopping is my favorite part of the Sunday reset.

But if I’m going to do it, I at least want the house to smell incredible when I’m finished.

And with two pit bulls in the house, the floors definitely get lived on. Our girls are part of our home, so I’m naturally conscious of the products we use around them and the spaces where they spend their time.

That’s one of the reasons I love using our Mop Soap as part of the reset. A little goes into the mop water, the floors get cleaned, and when I’m finished, the whole house smells good—not just the room where I have a candle burning.

That’s actually become a big part of how I think about Bourbon Royalty.

Why should fragrance only come from a candle sitting in one room?

And Then I Light the Candle

This is usually the part that tells me I’m finished.

The counters are clean. The floors are done. Things are put away.

And I finally light a candle.

The candle doesn’t always have to be where fragrance begins. Sometimes, it’s the finishing touch.

There’s something about that moment that changes the atmosphere from I’m cleaning the house to I’m enjoying my home.

And to me, that’s what home fragrance should really be about.

One Fragrance Throughout the House—or Not

You can use the same fragrance in your Royal Wash, Multi-Surface Cleaner, Mop Soap and candle and let it move naturally throughout your home.

Or you can mix them.

There really isn’t a rule.

Part of what I want Bourbon Royalty to help people discover isn’t just, Which candle do I like?

It’s: "Which fragrances feel like my home?"

Once you find one you love, there are so many more ways to experience it than simply lighting a candle.

And that’s a big part of where I see Bourbon Royalty going.

My Sunday Reset

My Sunday reset isn’t a perfectly styled house or some elaborate routine.

It’s fresh sheets. Clean counters. Floors done. Things put back where they belong. A candle burning. And hopefully a little time at the end of the evening to actually enjoy it.

After a busy week at Bourbon Royalty, sometimes having the house back in order is exactly what I need before starting another one.

And this morning, walking into a clean house with everything where it belongs?

I’m reminded why I do it.

Although by next Sunday, with two dogs in the house, I’m sure I’ll be wondering how everything got messy again.
